The
People of the Freewheel Collective:
The Freewheel Collective is composed of volunteers committed to improving the quality of life for Long Island bicyclists. Want to learn a little more about these people? Read on...
Adam Ehmer (current Collective Coordinator)Adam is technically a bike mechanic's apprentice. He is working on his chops and hopes to be largely self-sufficient by summer. After overpaying for or borrowing many inappropriately sized bikes, Adam decided to take matters into his own hands and build his first bike at Freewheel. The Valkyrie (fixed gear on a fuji frame) is completed and flying! Adam can be emailed at: fwcoord@gmail.com.
J. Matt HochJ. Matt is the current Freewheel Shop Coordinator and Freewheel Club President. He has been working on bikes with the Freewheel Crew for about 3.5 years. He considers himself to be a journeyman bike mechanic, and enjoys building bicycle monstrosities out of old discarded parts. Email J. Matt at: jcatfood@hotmail.com
Jenny LabonteJenny hails from the great province of Quebec and is a kickass double bass player.
Mat SiskMat likes simple machines and getting dirty. Thus, he is both an archaeologist studying primitive technologies and tries to remove superfluous parts from any bike he sees. Mat's one claim to fame is that Candace Cameron and Mark-Paul Gosselaar once stole his ice cream sandwiches. You can reach him at: Matthew.Sisk@sunysb.edu
Michael MacchiaroliBicycling is a huge part of my life. It's sort of like a drug addiction, only more expensive. Any kind of bike, just as long as you have to pedal it and it has at least two wheels. I rode from Seattle to Mexico in October and I can't wait to do another tour like it. Pretty fluent in bicycle mechanics since I'm always breaking, modifying, or building bikes. I was a lead mechanic at a local shop for a few years which also helped curb my bicycle addiction. You can reach Mike at his myspace account.
Chris Noto (current Webmaster)Like just about everyone else at Freewheel, I've been riding bikes all my life, though I never knew much about how they worked. Getting the chance to learn about how they work, as well as provide a community service by giving bikes to those who need them, has proved quite enjoyable (getting greasy can be even more fun). It's another interest to heap on the pile along with dinosaurs, music, rowing, photography, and general goofiness. Email me at: crnoto@life.bio.sunysb.edu.
brooke rodgersbrooke has enthusiasm for many things, bikes included. Thru the great joy of freewheel now i can do more to my bike than just ride it. You can email brooke at: brooke@ordomag.org
Chris BrunsonChris recently moved to LI from the great state of Washington. He is a bike mechanic par excellence.
