Part 1 "Introduction" by F. James Rohlf and Fred L. Bookstein Pages 5 and 6: There have been updates to some of the software packages: There have been some changes made to DSDIGIT (additional device support). A problem has been found in the RELWARP program. The numerical results are correct only if the baseline of the shape coordinates is horizontal. This program has been superceded by a new program TPSRW by F. James Rohlf. The new program provides hardcopy output for many kinds of printers. A new version of the TPSPLINE program is now available. There is a new menu structure and hardcopy output is now provided for many kinds of printers. These new programs are available free of charge by FTP over the Internet. Contact F. James Rohlf for details or to receive copies of the new software by other means.

Although the scan rates of most scanning and transmission electron microscopes are too slow to permit them to directly conform to an RS-170 format, many manufactures of these instruments have come to recognize the advantages of digital images and image processing. Accordingly, there is now a growing movement toward the production of digital images and/or the inclusion of secondary RS-170 video output channels as standard features of newer models. In addition, scanning or Page 34, column 1, line 23: insert "or various gap coding procedures (see Archie, 1985 and Goldman, 1988)" after "states" Lines 26 to 32: replace with the following text: tional program of phylogenetic analysis. A number of recent studies have also indicated that there is much to be gained by using continuously varying morphological variables to statistically examine a variety of phylogenetic null hypotheses (see Stearns, 1983; Cheverud et al., 1985; Felsenstein, 1988; Grafen, 1989; Pagel and Harvey, 1989). Chapter 7 "Fitting curves to outlines" by F. James Rohlf Page 171, equation (4): replace the "r" with a "t". Page 172, equation (8): replace the theta on the lefthand side by rho where the rho are the observed radii. Chapter 10 "Rotational fit (Procrustes) methods" by F. James Rohlf Page 228: It should have mentioned that the superscript t was used to denote the transpose of a matrix. In step 1 at the bottom left column the prime just indicates another version of these matrices — not their transpose. Page 230, equation (3): the V should have a superscript t to indicate that it is a transpose. The lines that follows should read: "where Q is a 2x3 matrix, V is a px2 matrix with the columns containing the x and y-coordinates of the landmarks in specimen 1, ..."
