ADVICE FOR TRAVEL TO STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY:
Automobile – By car from points east of Stony Brook, consider taking the Bridgeport - Port Jefferson Ferry or the Cross Sound Ferry from Connecticut; otherwise use New York City area bridges, which generally charge a toll, to reach Long Island. You need not enter Manhattan to reach Long Island. Driving instructions for Long Island may be obtained on the Stony Brook University website.
Railroad - Long Island Rail Road – Stony Brook can easily be reached by the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), originating in Pennsylvania Station, Manhattan (New York City). Be sure to take the Port Jefferson line of the LIRR to the Stony Brook station. You will probably have to change trains in Huntington or possibly Hicksville. The Stony Brook station of the LIRR is located on the north edge of campus, a 15-minute walk from the Wang Center and Nobel Dormitories. A regular campus shuttle bus stops on the campus side of the train station, and it can be taken to the Wang Center or Nobel Dormitories.
Railroad Travel from New England – One can take an Amtrak train to Bridgeport, Connecticut, and walk a short distance to board the Bridgeport-Port Jefferson Ferry to Port Jefferson. Port Jefferson is about 7 km (4 miles) by car or cab from the Stony Brook campus.
Railroad Travel from John F. Kennedy International Airport or from Newark Liberty International Airport – See Air Travel, below.
Air Travel - Domestic travelers may fly to the Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP), about 26 km (16 miles) from the Stony Brook campus, or LaGuardia (LGA) Airport, about 80 km (50 miles) away, but the only transportation to Stony Brook University is by shuttle, cab, or rental car. International and domestic travelers may fly to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), about 80 km (50 miles) away, or Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), about 120 km (75 miles) away.
JFK International Airport to Stony Brook by Train – Stony Brook can be reached by train from JFK and EWR; JFK is more convenient, but international airfares to EWR are usually less expensive. Take the Jamaica Station Train of the JFK AirTrain from your airport terminal to Jamaica Station (the end of the line). Pay for your AirTrain ticket before exiting, walk to the door for the Long Island Rail Road at the far corner of the room, and purchase a ticket from the vending machine outside for the Stony Brook Station on the Port Jefferson line.
EWR International Airport to Stony Brook by Train – Take the AirTrain Newark from EWR to the Newark Liberty Airport Station and either board an Amtrak or New Jersey (NJ) Trainsit train to Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan. You can buy one ticket that includes the fare for the AirTrain Newark plus the Amtrak or New Jersey Transit trains to Pennsylvania Station. See the Long Island Rail Road, above, for instructions to go from Pennsylvania Station to Stony Brook Station and back.
The AirTrains at both JFK and EWR run frequently during operating hours. Consult the websites of the AirTrains in each airport and of the rail road lines to Stony Brook for their schedules (see links above).

The residence hall is a 15-minute walk from the Wang Center, where sessions and most conference events will be held, and the Hilton is across the street.
Lodging off campus – If you are staying off-campus and plan to drive to the University, you may buy a $15 parking permit for the week of the Conference when you pay for your Conference registration.
