TRAVEL AWARDS

COVERAGE AND NUMBER OF AWARDS: Thanks to a generous grant from the American Genetic Association, funding is available to support the costs of food and lodging (double occupancy room), and registration for about 20 graduate students.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Applications for a travel award are due March 2, 2015 via email to Matt Wund, the Travel Awards Committee chair at wundm"at"tcnj.edu. Applicants must:

  1. Send PDF of an abstract for her or his talk or poster using the format found here.

  2. Arrange to have his or her advisor send a PDF of a letter describing the applicant’s (1) qualifications, (2) research progress, and (3) whether funding is available to support his or her attendance at the meeting.
CRITERIA: Because the award is from the American Genetic Association, preference will be given to students who are applying genetic and genomic approaches to any of the diverse research areas represented at the Conference and who have a demonstrated need for funding. However, graduate students not utilizing genetic or genomic approaches are still encouraged to apply.

AWARD COMMITTEE: Applications for Travel Awards will be judged by an international panel of stickleback biologists:

Matthew A. Wund, Chair, The College of New Jersey

        Windsor E. Aguirre, DePaul University

Martin Kalbe, Max Planck Society, Plön

        Erica Leder, University of Turku

Craig Miller, University of California, Berkeley

DECISION DATE: Applicants will be informed of the decisions on applications for Travel Awards on April 1, 2015.

REGISTRATION PAYMENT: Please do not register or reserve your dormitory housing until you have received a decision about your travel award application on about April 1. However, be sure to register by April 22, if you wish to meet the deadline for early registration and to reserve dormitory housing by the July 15, 2015 deadline for dormitory reservations.

SUPPORT OF STONY BROOK GRADUATE STUDENT PARTICIPATION: Graduate students at Stony Brook University should contact Mike Bell at mabell"at"life.bio.sunysb.edu by email and request admission to the entire Conference or to specific sessions of talks, the poster session, and social events, once the schedule for the meeting is posted online.
