Samantha Garvey, a senior at Brentwood High School, has been named an Intel semi-finalist. She is a student of E&E Ph.D. student and Brentwood H.S. research teacher Rebecca Grella, and did her research under the supervision of Professor Dianna Padilla. Samantha has been in the national news because in addition to being recognized for her scientific research, she is from a school district with a high proportion of families below the poverty level. Samantha and her family are currently homeless. Samantha Garvey and Rebecca Grella have been invited to attend the State of the Union Address in Washington, D.C.
