In June of 2003 I went on my first trip to the Cook Inlet Region of Alaska to collect threespine stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus. I traveled there with Mike Bell (my advisor) and Shintaro Nomakuchi, a visting scientist. Frank Von Hippel of the University of Alaska, Anchorage, and his students provided us with enormous support. We sampled something like 40 populations in the Matanuska Valley, near Anchorage. Here are some images of that trip.
