Syndi Barish
Syndi is currently a junior at Kings Park High School, where she is in the Independent Science Research program. As a freshman, she did a project involving radiation and plants and won first place for the ninth grade in the New York State Science and Engineering Fair (NYSSEF) Nebula division. As a sophomore, she did a project involving oil spills and ferrofluids and their effect on plants. She won highest honors at the Long Island Science Congress, enabling her to participate in the state competition. At the state level, she won the Pearson Award for Excellence in Life and Environmental Sciences. As a junior, she is working on a project in this lab. This year using the research performed in this lab, she entered NYSSEF Andromeda division and won first place in Cellular and Molecular Biology. The summer between junior and senior year, she will be participating in the Simon’s Fellowship Program at Stony Brook University. Her interests include genetics and evolution.
