| Introduction of the MEAD lab |
The MEAD Laboratory (Molecular Evolution of Adaptation and Diversity)
is a shared instrumentation facility for molecular evolution and molecular ecology research, training,
and data analysis, located in the Stony Brook Ecology and Evolution Department.
The Laboratory, located in room 662 of the Life Sciences Building, was created through an equipment grant
from the National Science Foundation (MUE Program, DBI-0400829) and a 30% matching award
from Stony Brook University.
The MEAD Laboratory serves two main purposes:
- to enable modern methods of molecular analysis, such as sequencing and real-time PCR, to
be utilized in the ecology and evolutionary biology research, as well as work in other biological
subdisciplines, for the entire Stony Brook community.
- to enable researchers in laboratory groups that are not equipped with molecular ("wet lab")
facilities to perform preparation work and molecular data acquisition.
