Wild bulls seen roaming Central Highlands park, April 5, 2003
Kon Tum — A herd of 45 wild bulls (Bos Gaurus) was recently discovered by officials at the Chu Mom Ray National Park in the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) province of Kon Tum.
Viet Nam is home to two of the six species of wild oxen in the world.
There are between 200 and 300 wild oxen throughout the country, mostly living in the park. There are approximately 10 herds of cattle, made up of four endangered species. Last week 11 people were arrested and prosecuted for hunting endangered oxen in the Yok Don National Park.
The alleged poachers admitted that they had also hunted wild boards, deer and other state-protected animals in nature reserves. — VNPark managers pull illegal logging out by the roots
