Stony Brook Ecology & Evolution
Books Program
The goal of the Stony Brook EE Books Program is to collect academic and popular science books and distribute them to libraries and universities in need, especially in developing countries. We do this by asking students and faculty to donate books that are new or in good condition to us, and then request that students or faculty traveling to other countries bring a few books with them to donate to appropriate institutions.
Over the last few years we have acquired over 440 books from students and faculty, and approximately 150 of these books have been donated to universities and libraries in Argentina, Bolivia, China, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Peru, Aceh province in Indonesia, and Mongolia. We've also recently expanded to include social programs in the U.S. and made donations to the Urban League of Long Island and Brentwood High School.
You can help by either donating books or taking a few books with you on your next trip outside of the country. All we ask for is a letter from the recipient institution acknowledging the donation. For more information, contact Paola Espinosa, Windsor Aguirre, or Melissa Mark.
