The plant growth facility includes a 14,000 square foot greenhouse, and a small number of plant growth chambers. The facility serves the research and educational needs of the division of Biological Sciences. The instructional support staff of the facility are Mr. Michael Axelrod, Curator, and Mr. John Klumpp, Assistant Curator. Mr. Axelrod is a graduate of Cornell University'sschool of Agriculture and Life Sciences and has been involved with plant relatedresearch for the past fourteen years. Mr. Klumpp is a graduate of S.U.N.Y. atStony Brook and has a background teaching High School Biology.Current research projects include:

• Production and screening of Arabidopsis mutants for resistance to spread of plant virus.

• Evaluation of water and nutrient stress on plant metabolism, photosynthesis, transpiration, and allocation of plant resources using infrared gas analysis, and gas chromatography.

• Analysis of morphological and physiological components of interspecific differences among grasses in response to nitrogen.

  Educational activities include plant laboratories designed for biology

  undergraduate courses for the purposes of studying plant issues including ecology and evolution, adaptation, and systematics. The greenhouse staff provide supplies which include soils, containers, integrated pest management, fertilizers, monitoring of environmental controls, and horticultural guidance to the users.
