BIO 360 Data from bee interviews Fall 1997-1999

Data collected in BIO 352, 5 September, 1997 and 3-4 September, 1998; in BIO/MAR 360, 14 and 18 September 1999. In the 1997-8 data sets, "approaches" were recorded if the bee hovered near a choice without touching it, but in 1999 they were not. Therefore, the 1999 data are kept separate from the older numbers. However, if the "visits" and "rejects" are summed for the 1999, these numbers could be legitimately added to the "landing visits" from previous years. (Data rows are labeled by year; in addition, 1999 data should appear in red on the screen or in a color printout.)

Part 1. Pairwise choices of knapweed (Centaurea maculosa) heads offered to free foraging honey bees (Apis) and bumble bees (mostly Bombus impatiens, B. affinis).

Experiment 1, "advertising". Heads of similar size, one trimmed of its ray flowers (NR), one intact (R).
